专利摘要:
The present invention relates to a system for reducing relative movements between an electrical device and a box mounted in a wall as a plug is pulled out of engagement with the electrical device. Such relative movements have been seen in connection with the prior art systems and are believed to be caused by connection between the device and the box not being aligned with the force applied to the device on moving the plug, this giving rise to a tendency of the device to rotate relative to the box, which rotation is undesirable for many reasons, including for aesthetical reasons.

A wall mounted electrical installation system and a method for installation thereof
Hence, with the invention as defined in the appended claims a better balancing of forces is achieved, thus limiting movements of the device. By removing parts of the slit-like fixing structure the invention allows for using the system with other types of devices. Furthermore, the invention allows for a versatile installation into a wall of the claimed system.
Independent claims drawn to the system reflect instances where the system is used in an upside-down position with the claws below the socket.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the appended drawings where
Fig. 1 outlines forces applied on an electrical device with a socket outlet as a cabled plug is removed,
Fig. 2 shows an undesirable gap formed with conventional systems as the aforementioned forces are applied,
Fig. 3 illustrates main parts of the system of the invention,
Fig. 4a and 4b are perspective views showing a frame of the invention, combined with an electrical device of the system,
Figs. 5a and 5b and and 6 show various steps during installation of the system,
Fig. 7 is a user manual showing the installation, and Figs. 8 and 9 are illustrations similar to fig. 3.
In the following, terminology such as “top” and “bottom” will refer to relative positions taken up after installation of the system 10.
Shown in figs. 1 and 2 are relative movements giving rise to a gap experienced with the prior art systems and believed to be caused by the connection between the electrical device 20 and the mounting box in the building wall 1 not being aligned with the force applied to the device 20 on removing the plug 200, this giving rise to a tendency of the device 20 to rotate relative to the box, which rotation is undesirable for many reasons, including for aes-thetical reasons.
Fig. 3 shows the components of the system 10 of the present invention, namely an electrical device 20 with a socket outlet 25 for connection with a cabled plug 200 insertable into and removable from the outlet 25, a hollow box 30 having an inside for receiving the device 20 and being mountable in a recess or hollow in a wall 1 and a separate frame 40 for extending around the electrical device 20.
The box 30 has a front, a rear wall 32 opposite the front, a top wall 34, a bottom wall 36 and two opposite side walls 38, 39, each side wall 38, 39 having faces oriented towards the inside of the box 30. The frame 40 has a frame top 49, a frame bottom 44, and opposite frame sides 46, 48.
Moreover, the device 20 has a device top 22 and a device bottom 24 and includes a pair of spreadable claws 28, 29 located closer to the device top 22 than the device bottom 24, each claw 28, 29 being arranged for engaging a respective one of the two opposite side walls 38, 39 in an area closer to the top wall 34 than the bottom wall 36. The claws 28, 29 are activated for spreading in the conventional manner using a screwdriver forcing the claws 28, 29 to ride on a cam surface, thus moving apart to project sideways from the device sides 23. The socket outlet 25 is located generally closer to the device bottom 24 than to the device top 22, and the device has a device flange 129 located adjacent the device bottom 24.
According to the invention the box 30 includes a fixing portion 31, shown here as an elongated passage which may be threaded, arranged adjacent the bottom wall 36 (and/or adjacent the top wall 34) and being alignable with a fixing portion 41, shown here as a through-going hole, of the frame bottom 44, the fixing portions 31,41 receiving a connecting means 50, shown here a screw, for connecting the frame 40 to the box 30 by the through-going hole being smaller than the head of the screw 50. Moreover, the frame 40 has adjacent the fixing portion 41 a slit-like fixing structure with first and second parts 101, 102, here shown as tabs 101 and an opposite wall 102, and being for receiving the device flange 129 between the first and second parts 101, 102.
As seen in figs. 3 and 4b the electrical device 20 has an engagement structure 23 located adjacent the claws 28, 29 and configured for snap engagement with a corresponding engagement structure 42 on each of the frame sides 46, 48. Shown in fig. 6i is also a further separate frame structure 300 releasably connectable to one or more of the frame top 49, frame bottom 44, and opposite frame sides 46, 48, to cover the frame top 49, frame bottom 44, and opposite frame sides 46, 48.
Installation of the system 10 of the invention will now be discussed with reference first to figs. 6a-6e. Fig. 6e show the box 30 having already been mounted in the desired position in a recess or opening in building wall 1, and secured in place by grouting or other mounting means. Fig. 4b shows the frame 40 assembled with the device 20, and figs. 6a-6b together with fig. 5a and 5b show the steps taken to assemble the device 20 and frame 40. More specifically, the assembly involves first inserting the device flange 129 into the slit-like fixing structure by first holding the device 20 at an angle relative to the frame 40, and then turning said device (20) to a position with the device (20) being enclosed by the frame 40, as shown in fig. 6d, and in which the engagement structures 23, 42 on the frame 40 and device 20 engage each other.
The assembly is then inserted into the box as shown in fig. 6e following which the frame 40 is connected to the box 30 by the connecting means 50, to thereby secure the device 20 relative to the box 30; an activating of the claws 28, 29 may be done to engage the claws with a respective one of the two opposite side walls 38, 39.
Referring back to fig. 1 it will be understood that with the invention the pull force applied on pulling out the plug will now be taken up by the device 20 being connected to the frame 40 through the device flange 129 and the screw 50, and through the engagement of the claws 28, 29 with the box 30 and/or the engagement between engagement structure 23 with the corresponding engagement structure 42 on each of the frame sides 46, 48. Thus balancing of the pull force is by connections established above and below the socket outlet 25, preventing the aforementioned rotation and, hence, the appearance of a gap as shown in fig. 2.
It is noted that the term slit-like fixing structure as used herein refers generally to a structure for receiving the device flange 129 supported on either side thereof, and this structure is defined by faces that need not be opposite each other, as is the case in fig. 4a, where the first and second parts 101, 102 are displaced or offset relative to each other, i.e. not opposite each other, giving rise nevertheless to a slit-like structure defined by first and second parts 101, 102 located along the frame bottom 44 near each of the frame sides 46, 48. The embodiment shown in fig. 4a is convenient in that the first parts 101, shown here as tabs, may be configured to be easily removable by a user applying the sharp edge of a screw driver, to allow for the frame 40 to be used with alternative devices 20. The width of the slit-like structure, i.e. spacing between the first and second parts 101, 102, should be such that the device flange 129 can be inserted therein when the device is held at an angle to the vertical, as shown in the drawings.
With the invention fixing may be by one of the following: i) fixing only by two screws 50 at top and bottom, as shown in fig. 3, ii) as above, and additionally with the two claws 28, 29, and III) with the claws 28, 29 and only one screw 50.
